IIPM episode covered in traditional media

At last, the IIPM vs Bloggers issue is covered in some of the print media's online websites. I notice it in Hindustan Times and Outlook. But both Outlook and Hindustan Times play with the words quite well. They reported that Gaurav Sabnis has 'lost' his job. How could he lose this job when he resigned from it?

This is what Hindustan Times article has to say:
"It all started with Rashmi's JAM magazine running an 'expose' on the claims made by IIPM and its so-called affiliation to certain international institutions. IIPM demanded Rs 25 crore for the presumed loss of goodwill. Nasty messages were posted on Bansal's personal blog. Gaurav Sabnis, a 25-year-old IBM India employee and an active blogger, lost his job because he posted his reactions and a link to the JAM's piece on his web page. An outraged IIPM sent a Rs 125-crore legal notice to Sabnis."

Outlook article covered some legal aspects of blogging too. Though it quotes Amit Varma saying that blogs are governed by the same rules that govern other media, I dont think this is the case in India.

Even the ZDNet article is an interesting read.

I am happy that Blogs are starting to make a difference in India. Search Engines have played its part too in helping the bloggers finding the information. Gone are the days when only a Pen is mighter than a sword!!

Update: This blog dwells deep into the Outlook article and the bad job done by it in covering the issue. Bad coverage is worse than no coverage??

Its clear that only confirmed morons have joined IIPM in the past and there will be many confirmed morons who will join IIPM in the future. No amount of blogging can save any moron from joining IIPM. So IIPM management have actually proved that (a) they are morons when they sued and protested. (b) they don’t know that they are morons and need bloggers to tell them that. (c) they don’t know that their students are morons and need bloggers to tell them that.

I feel its wrong to blame the students and ex-students of IIPM. After all, we are not sure, its the ex-students who made those remarks on Rashmi's Blog. They must have paid a lot of hard earned money to live their dream of a decent job.

However, the way IIPM responded to all this episode is worth noting. Sending legal notices to the bloggers is a blunder. What has been in the bloggers domain is now in MainStream Media(MSM) for all the people to see. As numerous bloggers pointed out, they must have defended their reputation with solid proof of their claims.
