you have got gmail!!

Nearly a week after starting the hunt for getting a gmail account, I
finally got one! I must thank Nikhil for sending the invite. As I said
in my previous post, there is a lot of hype for gmail. My guess is
that gmail is in a perferctly working and tested shape.

Google is continuing to give out accounts only on invites to keep the
free marketing going! It also expects the users to stick to their
gmail account, as they had to try hard to get the account.

As I said earlier, I already have 2 1GB mail accounts in rediff and
spymac. But I still wanted to try out gmail. So far, my experience has
been ok.. The biggest advantage with gmail is no image ads which are
hard on the eyes.

More than as a regular mail, i will use my gmail account as a sink..
to store files.
My home PC still has a 4GB hard disk. And I now have more than 4 GB in
mail accounts.. The power of storage!!

P.S. Don't ask me for invites pls. I haven't got any invite yet. And I
need atleast first 20 invites to give them to my friends.

gmail invites.. marketing at its best!

I think gmail, by not giving away accounts with sign-ups but by using the invites, have got lot of good marketing fot itself. I find tremendous interest among my friends and colleagues to get one account.

While its 1GB mail account is in itself a good idea that lot of other mail services had to follow, I think the key that wud seperate gmail from others is the tremendous goodwill that google search has among the development community ( I guess its the same among ppl who use net for fun/information). I think creating view folders(don't know the exact name that gmail uses for this) which is only a logical mapping for the mail is a good feature too. And don't forget the search feature. I can't tell exactly the good features becoz I don't have a gmail account. :(
Even though I have a 1GB pop3 account!!, I'm still interested in getting a gmail account for myself.

My guess is that it won't take long before everyone who needs an account gets one by way of invites. I was pissed off to see ppl selling gmail accounts. when google is giving their account for free, its bad that these guys are trying to make money out of it. I checked at eBay and now though the cost is about 9 cents for an account, heard it started with a whopping 100 dollars when gmail started giving out the invites..

ppl without gmail account... don't worry. if what you are looking for is just 1GB mail, there are alternatives.. try www.rediffmail.com(have been using it since 4-5 yrs back) or spymac.net.

P.S. anyone with a gmail invite..... plz plz send it to mutec AT spymac DOT com.

vi plugin for eclipse

I was using a viplugin for eclipse 3.0 M8. It was useful as I was one of
those who has been using vi for years now.. and vi helps increase your
coding speed. and then can the eclipse 3.0 M9. and the 0.2.11 version of
viplugin and i have been fondly using.. went for a toss..

i wanted to get the latest plugin.. but then i realised that now its
costs 15 Euro. for me in india, 15 euro is quite an amount. so i thought
why not i enhance for 0.2.11 version..(0.2.11 was released under IBM CPL
license along with the src code!!) . i took the source code. and started
my hunt. i have already put some 4 days of effort but no breakthru.. i
realised that the 0.2.11 is working fine when folding is disabled.. so,
i disabled folding ( which anyone dint make much sense to me).. and now
using the 0.2.11 version.. but i am sure that i can crack the problem
with the folding enabled.. its only matter of time!!

resume writing. T+1 syndrome.

I think software industry is one where one has to be 'mobile' and one has to market himself well.. and the starting point of this marketing is creating a CV. I have been trying to prepare my resume for the past 20 days. its always the T+1 syndrome.. this syndrome has been coined by one of my friend. T+1 stands for Transaction Date + 1. This is the settlement time for transactions on stock markets. T+1 means that the whole transaction has to be complete within 24 hours of initiation.

and now coming to our T+1 syndrome.. its postponing work to the next day.. I know that a lot of ppl have this problem.. but I guess none wud have it more than me.. I have been postponing writing the resume to the next day for the past '20' days.. :(

this week.. i should get my resume out!!!

so.. finally. i started my blog..

hope to write my ideas into this atleast once in a week..

first, an introduction about myself.

i am 23/M. from bangalore, republic of India. i work as a software engineer. i work on J2EE.. working on this for the past 2 yrs.. thatz about my profession..

about my personal life.. hmm... i don't know what to reveal n what not to.. ;)
as this is my first blog.. a bit confused.. i closely follow indian politics.. dance of democracy.. as a newspaper ad shows.. i have some serious views about my country, the path it should take, do's and don'ts for the new government.

my blogs will be either on java or on indian politics. dont think any other topics wud be covered.. so, in case u r interested in indain politics or in some java concepts.. keep an eye on this blog..
