P.S. JF-17 is the 'next-generation' fighter being 'jointly' developed by China and Pakistan.

Army says no to Reservations

Army says no to reservations.

"These remarks come in wake of the reported demand by chairman of National Commission for Scheduled Castes, Suraj Bhan, for the Army to either reserve jobs for SCs and STs or create more regiments for them."

interesting demand from Suraj Bhan. And Advani is not behind.

"This, of course, is not the first time. L K Advani, while campaigning in Gandhinagar during the last general elections as the Deputy PM, had promised to raise a Gujarat Regiment."

Guys, our army is doing a decent job. Dont corrupt it with your caste and regional biases.

Musharraf's Diary - 'Private and Confidential'

Below is an imaginative diary entry of General Pervez Musharraf, self proclaimed CEO, pakistan. I always considered him to have a foot in the mouth disease. This has been confirmed last month with his outbursts on Washington Post, subsequent denying that only a stupid can make such remarks and then caught with his pants down when washingtonpost has released the audio tapes of the interview. For those who missed the action here is a blog which has an overview of what had happened.

Musharraf's Diary Entry:

Another day of hectic meetings because of the earthquake.  Yesterday Sehba Musharraf gave  an interview to CNN. Actually CNN asked me for the interview. But Sehba is angry with me for messing up the Washington Post interview. So, she said she would go instead. It all happened because of my secretary. I thought this washington post is a pashto newspaper from wazaristan. my secretary dint tell me about it. he also dint tell me they have recorded the interview. thatz why i asked them if i am that stupid to say those words. anyway,  I have sent my secretary to ISI chief for 'debriefing'.

Today also CNN asked for interview. Sehba has given yesterday. Ma is not doing well. else I would have sent her today. Finally I had to go for the interview. but I made sure this time they are not recording anything. I have personally checked  the interviewers pockets also. That person asked me if I am afraid corruption would deny the aid reaching the victims. i got angry. what will a commando be afraid of?? I said I am chairing the rehalibation authority and 'I will chair and I will spear at it'. That cameraman is gigling at me. I will have to send him also for debriefing.

india offered helicopters for relief operations. We told them we dont want their pilots. when the amrekans can give F16s without their pilots, why wont the indians give helicopters. Manmohan Singh called me on the hotline today. He said he will send the helicopters without pilots.. and without engines too. I said no. why did I say no?? This mouth is habituated to denying everything. I should have taken them. Afterall, these indoos dont know that our pilots can 'drive' helicopters in any state. No problem, I will call him tomorrow and ask why the helicopters were not sent. I can always ask if he thinks i'm so stupid to deny helicopters. Wonder if he too is recording my words.. I dont think so. these indoos are not as intelligent as amrekans.

earthquake gave me an opportunity to continue as president even after 2007. i can say pakistan needs me for the reconstruction. But are these ppl enlightened and moderated to let me continue?? anyway, sehba's interview was very good. after 2007, what if i make sehba as president. i shud ask laloo about suggestions. he will help me after the reception i gave him last time he was in pakistan. If not, I can always bribe him with grass for his cows. we have so much of it that bhutto said we will eat grass if required to make the nuklear bomb. this reminds me of the our nuklear bombs. I told everyone that they wont fall in wrong hands. but those guys dont know that their wrong man is my right [read jihadi/freedom figher] man.

Aymen al-Zawahiri called up on fone. He said he is worried about the transportation for osama as all the mules are hired for earthquake relief. I said I will send him sitara car. Asked him not to worry about the kafir components in it. Its 100% made in pakistan. I too wanted to use it. but security is a problem without the roof.

nawaz sharrif also called me up today. he refered the CNN  interview where I told we wont stop anyone who are working for reconstruction. he said he is coming back to work in reconstruction.. hmm.. what do I do now? no problem... those CNN people havent recorded the interview.

In the evening, haven't missed playing bridge and boozed with my bridge buddies. No moderation here. No Enlightenment also. earthquake or tsunami, i shudnot miss my timetable. after all, i am the first professional president and CEO.

Tomorrow will be another hectic day. but i wont keep an alarm to getup early. not required. afterall, this condi rice never lets me sleep coming in my dreams. she always reminds me of my english teacher who used to box my ears. wonder why condi always boxes my ears in my dreams. [read update June 24, 2005 on condi snubs musharraf]

P.S.  Though this background of this imaginative piece is Pakistan during these fateful days, when it is struggling with rescue and reconstruction, I have no intention of hurting the feelings of ordinary pakistanis. This is the first time, I am trying my hand at spoof. So, please excuse me if this is in bad taste.  The 'ideas' for this blog originated from Graeme Smiths Diary Entries. More on that on my previous blog entry.

IIPM episode covered in traditional media

At last, the IIPM vs Bloggers issue is covered in some of the print media's online websites. I notice it in Hindustan Times and Outlook. But both Outlook and Hindustan Times play with the words quite well. They reported that Gaurav Sabnis has 'lost' his job. How could he lose this job when he resigned from it?

This is what Hindustan Times article has to say:
"It all started with Rashmi's JAM magazine running an 'expose' on the claims made by IIPM and its so-called affiliation to certain international institutions. IIPM demanded Rs 25 crore for the presumed loss of goodwill. Nasty messages were posted on Bansal's personal blog. Gaurav Sabnis, a 25-year-old IBM India employee and an active blogger, lost his job because he posted his reactions and a link to the JAM's piece on his web page. An outraged IIPM sent a Rs 125-crore legal notice to Sabnis."

Outlook article covered some legal aspects of blogging too. Though it quotes Amit Varma saying that blogs are governed by the same rules that govern other media, I dont think this is the case in India.

Even the ZDNet article is an interesting read.

I am happy that Blogs are starting to make a difference in India. Search Engines have played its part too in helping the bloggers finding the information. Gone are the days when only a Pen is mighter than a sword!!

Update: This blog dwells deep into the Outlook article and the bad job done by it in covering the issue. Bad coverage is worse than no coverage??

India, biggest gainer in 'bra war'

China's loss is India's gain. But Indian imports have only increased because of the higher tarriffs imposed by EU and US on Chinese garments. I'm waiting for the day when we can compete with chinese head on. There are certain areas where we can follow the Chinese and there are areas where we shouldnot. We should certainly follow them in good infrastructure creation. Came to know from friends that there is no free movement of people in China. People require to have a permit to enter the cities. Dont think these things are worth imitating. Also the poor conditions of the farmers. In India, about 70% of the people depend on Agriculture. Sure this number should come down.

China reminds me of an article I read, conspiracy theories as why our leftists are targetting Japanese companies. More on that later..

Graeme Smith's Super Series Diary - hehe

I just read the two columns by Dan Nicholl.

1. Graeme Smith's Super Series Diary

2. Graeme Smith's Super Series Diary II

Its an imaginative diary of Graeme Smith. Very funny. I haven't read such a good spoof in the cricket section for a long time. If only we had some, who can write as funny about Indian Cricket. By the way, I got this link from http://vikramarumilli.blogspot.com

India lets quake victims cross Line of Control

India has agreed to let the quake victims cross LOC.But pakistani government is guarded in its response. I hope the response will be positive this time, unlike it happened for most of the help offered by India earlier. Like we want helicopters but not the crew. How disgusting is this argument? Lets assume that India agrees to give the helicopters without the crew. Can pakistan get crew to run these helicoptors ( Most of these will be Indian (Cheetah, Chetak, Lancer) and Russian Make)?. How easy it would be for Pakistan to find crew to fly these helicoptors??

And when India said that it is willing to help along the LOC, pakistan counter claims that it is willing to help India in J&K. First, let the pakistan put their house in order. Then, they can come to help in India. These are exactly how the Pakistanis handle the Kashmir situation. They want the people of Kashmir to have Right to Self determination. But sadly, the pakistanis themselves rarely has this right. They end up ruled by the end of the barrel most of the time. In these games that Pakistan plays, its the people of Kashmir that suffer.

2005 - An year of tragedies?

2005 is indeed the year of tragedies. On 26th Dec, 2004 came the tsunami. That has set the stage for the year ahead. I see reports of atleast 15 airplane crashes this year, the latest being the nigerian plane crash. And this is only October and still a good 2 months before year end.

And then there is this huge earthquake that struck the Indian subcontinent. Pakistan which is one of the largest producer of tents is not finding enought tents to give to the victims who are living in the open in cold weather. Good that this earthquake hasn't struct in the midst of himalayan winter which sets in a month. I only hope this quake doesnot strength these jihadis (merchants of death) who make a living by killing.

Why bringing the Caste in this article?

I have just browsed thru an article in WashingtonPost. I wonder why these journalists make it a point to bring the caste even when caste has no role in some of the places.

" One house -- marked by a red-painted wall that surrounds the small compound -- exists for lepers and widows. It survives on donations. These are not the poorest of the poor, but close. They are from a lower caste. The courtyard borders a sewage canal. Most widows have their own shed-like room -- about four feet tall and only big enough to fit a woven cot. During the day the women pull the cots outside to sit and feel the post-monsoon breeze. They sit all day. Barely talking. Almost motionless. "

Sure, there are places where there is caste discrimination, but these journos make it a point to signify the caste of the victims even when caste has nothing to do in their fate. I have seen several instances where atrocities committed on the lower castes are highlighted based on the caste and not on the atrocity. India can only move away from this system, when no person needs to write down the caste on the applications and no person can claim special preferences based on caste. I understand that affirmative action is required to bring upliftment to the poor in the society but dont the poor exist in all the castes??

Mumbai Cricket Team - The Gaint Killer

Mumbai cricket team has done it yet again. Yes, this time they beat the Sri Lankan cricket team in an ODI. Sri Lanka is ranked 2 in the ODIs. This is not the first time that Mumbai team has pulled down a gaint. 1998 defeat of the AUS cricket team in a four day match is only fresh in the minds of cricket fans. In that match, Sachin hit a brilliant double ton.

Its to be noted that this is not even the full strength Ranji team. Their Coach Chandrakanth Pandit and captian Bahutule has just stepped down and moved to Maharastra team. Lets hope that this win inspires the Indian team to beat the Lankans 7-0 in the coming up ODI series. I will yet again miss the action live from my home in US. But as usual, I will closely follow the ball-by-ball commentary on CricInfo.
